This elegant Pikorua (Twist) pendant has been hand carved from Kawakawa Flower Pounamu, showing deep green hues highlighted by lighter bursts of Putiputi (Flower). A 9ct Yellow Gold bail set with a 0.06ct diamond adds brilliance to the design, while the fine polish enhances the stone’s natural variation and glow - a truly special Greenstone taonga.
Pikorua/Twist, The Māori single twist or Pikorua resembles two intertwined pikopiko ferns. Representing the paths of ‘life and love’ or ‘friendship or eternity’. Because the Pikorua stands for infinite partnership, it makes it a perfect gift for lovers, newlyweds, fiancées, or others who want to emphasise their connection, their love for each other, their loyalty and friendship.
Kawakawa- is the most common variety of Pounamu. it comes in many shades - from strong, rich green to dark green - and often has small dark flecks or light inclusions, which add to its character. Named after the leaf of the Kawakawa. It is the main type used in gem purposes.
Flower Jade- is New Zealand’s most prized Greenstone, with pale green or ochre clouds of colour. This distinctive patterning and colouring come from the outside rim or 'rind' of the greenstone boulders or stones where the surface has oxidised.
