Rob Singer – Pounamu Carver Honouring Nature with Scrimshaw and Etching Detail
Hello I'm -
At the age of 5, Robert Singer found his first piece of jade—since then, the stone has been “in his blood,” a fascination and something to reflect upon.
"Jade was plentiful in this area at the time, and the young man quickly discovered within himself a spirit of creativity."
Robert expresses his love and respect for nature and the outdoors through his art. Scrimshaw and etching have become his signature techniques, beautifully integrated into his Pounamu carvings. His designs often feature native wildlife such as deer, kākā, pīwakawaka (fantail), kiwi, and the iconic New Zealand silver fern—each piece a tribute to the natural world he draws inspiration from.
