Moko Pounamu Yin Yang NZ Genuine Aroha Stone & Nelson Golden Bay Polychrome Schist - Iwituaroa
A fabulous Yin Yang pendant handcrafted from Nelson Golden Bay Polychrome Schist and Aroha Stone, with Paua Shell eyes - this piece bonds two different stones together to form a whole greater than the sum of the parts as befits the Yin/Yang symbol. This will be a treasured taonga.
Yin & Yang- is the concept of forces or cosmic principles which are interconnected and which perpetuate each other. They can be thought of as complementary but at the same time opposing forces which together form a system in which the whole is greater than the assembled parts.
Aroha Stone
– Aroha stone is found only in certain parts of Otago and Southland New Zealand. First discovered from the Shotover River in the beautiful mountains of Central Otago, Piemontite Schist stone was initially recorded as a Quartz-Muscovite-Piemontite Schist Boulder.
Golden Bay Polychrome Schist- Also called 'Obay Stone" named after the man who found it. She has blue-green and orange tones with standout black iron inclusions. A gorgeous mix of Kyanite, Fuchsite and oxidised minerals throughout. These features are near impossible to capture in photographs. Because of the different compositions of the stone no two pieces will ever be the same making each piece unique and different. Its origins as a semi-precious stone are like pounamu in the way that it was formed - under tremendous pressure and extreme heat many years ago - but its makeup of different types of stone is what makes it unique and is a true collector's piece.
(Please not this stone is NOT Aotea but contains some of the same minerals, she is newly discovered, and we will add more information as we learn more).
Paua Shell
– Abalone, our Paua shell is rich and deep in iridescent colours unique to New Zealand. Found all around the rocky shoreline coast but grows best in southern waters. Paua shell has been traditionally used by Maori to illuminate the eyes & features of carvings and artwork. While Paua sits within the abalone family, which is found in other parts of the world, namely, South America, Australia, Western North America, and Japan, our Paua's hidden, bright multi-coloured interior shell is only found in New Zealand.
