Moko Pounamu Single Pikorua (Twist) NZ Genuine Kawakawa Greenstone - Taieri
This graceful Pikorua (twist) pendant is carved from vivid Kawakawa pounamu, showcasing brilliant emerald green tones threaded through with dark, moody black veining that gives the stone real drama and depth. The colour glows vibrantly where the light catches the thinner sections, contrasting beautifully with the darker, shadowed areas for a striking, painterly effect. The Pikorua's single continuous twist represents the joining of two people or paths, symbolising eternal friendship, loyalty, and the strength of relationships that endure through life's twists and turns. Finished with a smooth, flowing silhouette and high polish, this piece lets the natural patterning of the stone take centre stage.
Pikorua- Twist, The Māori single twist or Pikorua resembles two intertwined pikopiko ferns. Representing the paths of ‘life and love’ or ‘friendship or eternity’. Because the Pikorua stands for infinite partnership, it makes it a perfect gift for lovers, newlyweds, fiancées, or others who want to emphasise their connection, their love for each other, their loyalty and friendship.
Kawakawa- is the most common variety of Pounamu. It comes in many shades - from strong, rich green to dark green - and often has small dark flecks, which add to its character. Named after the leaf of the Kawakawa. It is the main type used for gem purposes.
