This small Pikorua is carved from Kawakawa Pounamu, showing rich dark green tones with soft natural features running through the stone. The twist is clearly defined and well proportioned. Compact in size and smoothly finished, it has a grounded presence.
Pikorua/Twist, The Māori single twist or Pikorua resembles two intertwined pikopiko ferns. Representing the paths of ‘life and love’ or ‘friendship or eternity’. Kawakawa- is the most common variety of Pounamu. It comes in many shades - from strong, rich green to dark green - and often has small dark flecks, which add to its character. Named after the leaf of the Kawakawa. It is the main type used for gem purposes.
