This Pikorua is hand carved from Kawakawa Pounamu, showing rich green tones with soft natural features running through the stone. The single twist curves cleanly through the form, giving the pendant a sense of flow. Finished with a fine polish - a refined taonga with presence.
Pikorua- Twist, The Maori single twist or Pikorua resembles two intertwined pikopiko ferns. Representing the paths of ‘life and love’ or ‘friendship or eternity’. Kawakawa- is the most common variety of Pounamu. it comes in many shades - from strong, rich green to dark green - and often has small dark flecks, which add to its character. Named after the leaf of the Kawakawa. It is the main type used in gem purposes.
