Soft, grey-green Inanga pounamu forms this wonderful Shepherd’s Whistle, displaying gentle colour variations with subtle natural clouding throughout the stone. The smooth satin finish enhances the organic character of the pounamu, while lighter tones highlight the natural beauty of genuine New Zealand Inanga pounamu.

A shepherds whistle is used predominantly by the farmer to communicate commands to his sheepdogs and is often seen at sheepdog trials. This is an exquisite example of the whistle and is expertly handcrafted from the most stunning piece of Inanga Pounamu.

Inanga- Pounamu takes its name from a freshwater fish native to New Zealand. It is pale and often transparent, like the young of the Inanga fish. It is pearly white to grey green in colour, and ranges from translucent to quite opaque. It can change colour over time, developing a light olive tint as it ages and oxidises - Highly prized by the Māori and the desired material for making Mere and Patu.

Hand Carved by Ross Crump

Size 35mm long x 45mm wide x 8mm thick (Approx. each carving will differ slightly)
