Moko Pounamu Pupu-Rangi Bowl Genuine NZ Kawakawa Flower Greenstone - Te Haroto
Snail on a Leaf Dish by carver Dean Hetherington. This finely handcrafted bowl is carved from Kawakawa Flower Pounamu and shows subtle splashes of Putiputi (flower) across the stone, particularly on the underside. The carver has captured the Pūpū-rangi's spiral shell form as it flows seamlessly into a leaf-shaped bowl. This distinctive greenstone piece brings both charm and craftsmanship, and may even serve as a fitting place to rest your pounamu jewellery.
Pūpū-rangi
- or Kauri Snail is a large, carnivorous land snail found only in Northland, New Zealand. Its distinctive spiral shell has inspired many local artists and carvers.
Kawakawa- is the most common variety of Pounamu. It comes in many shades - from strong, rich green to dark green - and often has small dark flecks, which add to its character. Named after the leaf of the Kawakawa. It is the main type used for gem purposes.
Putiputi (Flower) Jade- is New Zealand’s most prized Greenstone, with pale green or ochre clouds of colour. This distinctive patterning and colouring come from the outside rim or 'rind' of the greenstone boulders or stones where the surface has oxidised.
