Moko Pounamu Pikoura NZ Genuine Kawakawa Greenstone - Raetihi
This contemporary pikorua is carved from Kawakawa pounamu, showing a deep, rich green with fine white cloudy inclusions drifting through the lower portion of the stone, giving it a soft, organic depth. The form is a smooth, rounded twist, with a narrow upper loop turning cleanly into a broad, pebble-like teardrop base, the whole piece flowing in one unbroken curve to symbolise the joining of two lives or ideas. Threaded with a black braided cord finished in a simple knot. The stone is polished to a deep, glassy lustre that highlights the smooth, rounded volume of the piece and lets the natural cloudy inclusions glow softly from within.
Pikorua - Twist, The Māori single twist or Pikorua resembles two intertwined pikopiko ferns. Representing the paths of ‘life and love’ or ‘friendship or eternity’. Because the Pikorua stands for infinite partnership, it makes it a perfect gift for lovers, newlyweds, fiancées, or others who want to emphasise their connection, their love for each other, their loyalty and friendship.
Kawakawa - is the most common variety of Pounamu. It comes in many shades - from strong, rich green to dark green - and often has small dark flecks, which add to its character. Named after the leaf of the Kawakawa. It is the main type used for gem purposes.
