Moko Pounamu Pikoura NZ Genuine Kawakawa Greenstone - Puhoi
This contemporary pikorua is carved from Kawakawa pounamu, showing a deep, dark forest-green stone with natural fibrous white inclusions and fine internal veining running through the body, giving the piece a raw, organic texture alongside its polished finish. The form is a sculptural, asymmetrical twist, curving smoothly from a narrow upper loop into a broader, flowing lower section that tapers to a pointed tip, with a small drilled hole set within the twist itself. A black braided cord is threaded through the hole and finished with a simple knot for wearing. The stone is polished to a rich, glossy lustre on its rounded, sculptural surfaces, while the natural textured inclusions are left visible, adding depth and character to the piece's flowing silhouette.
Pikorua - Twist, The Māori single twist or Pikorua resembles two intertwined pikopiko ferns. Representing the paths of ‘life and love’ or ‘friendship or eternity’. Because the Pikorua stands for infinite partnership, it makes it a perfect gift for lovers, newlyweds, fiancées, or others who want to emphasise their connection, their love for each other, their loyalty and friendship.
Kawakawa - is the most common variety of Pounamu. It comes in many shades - from strong, rich green to dark green - and often has small dark flecks, which add to its character. Named after the leaf of the Kawakawa. It is the main type used for gem purposes.
