Moko Pounamu Multi Koru Sculpture NZ Genuine Kahurangi & Inanga Greenstone - Omarumutu
This impressive quadruple Koru is expertly hand-carved from a beautiful piece of Kahurangi Pounamu and set atop a stunning water-worn Inanga Pounamu pebble, with a high polish on the top and natural underneath. The vivid green hues of the carving contrast beautifully with the blue-green tones of the base, creating a piece that truly stands out. It is a remarkable taonga, perfect for passing down through whakapapa.
Koru- The Māori word for bright or loop. It refers to the shoots of the silver fern. The circular movement to the inner core refers to "going back to the beginnings". The unfurling frond itself is symbolic for new life, new beginnings, hope, personal growth, purity nurturing, a new phase in life, the spirit of rejuvenation and peace.
Sculpture - Kawakawa- is the most common variety of Pounamu. It comes in many shades - from strong, rich green to dark green - and often has small dark flecks, which add to its character. Named after the leaf of the Kawakawa. It is the main type used for jewellery purposes.
Base - Inanga- Pounamu takes its name from a freshwater fish native to New Zealand. It is pale and often transparent, like the young of the Inanga fish. It is pearly white to grey green in colour, and ranges from translucent to quite opaque. It can change colour over time, developing a light olive tint as it ages and oxidises - Highly prized by the Māori and the desired material for making Mere and Patu.
