Mere or Patu is a type of short, broad-bladed weapon in the shape of an enlarged tear drop. It was used to strike/jab an opponent in the body or the head. The Mere signifies high status and gives the owner courage and strength. It is the same design as a Patu, but the difference is a Patu is made of wood, stone, or whale bone whereas Meres are made of Greenstone Pounamu.

Auhunga- Genuine West Coast Greenstone from the Arahura River area, West Coast. Auhunga Pounamu is a pale opaque green colour. Resembling the Southern New Zealand mountains, its --name translates to frosty, given as the intermediate of Inanga and Kawakawa.

Dendrites are branching, tree-like inclusions, often composed of manganese oxide, iron, or chlorite, that form within fractures or during crystallization, commonly found in secondary, river-worn stones. These dark, brownish-yellow to black, moss-like patterns are prized for unique artistry and can be used to identify regional origins, such as in certain New Zealand nephrites.

A quality piece to be treasured and preserved for your children and children's children.
