Matau- Fishhook - Originally Māori have been fishermen.Their main food source was the sea, so a fishhook of high quality was an unbelievably valuable item to own.The hook became a symbol of prosperity, abundance, good health, power, authority and respect for the sea and its life in it.They also provide good luck and safety while travelling across water.

Sculpture - Kawakawa- is the most common variety of Pounamu. It comes in many shades - from strong, rich green to dark green - and often has small dark flecks, which add to its character. Named after the leaf of the Kawakawa. It is the main type used for jewellery purposes.

Base - Raukaraka- Genuine West Coast Greenstone from the Taramakau River Area.This is the term used by the Māori of the Cook Strait region of the Kawakawa variety that is streaked with a shade of olive green and has yellow and orange hues that blend into the greens. This stone shares its name with the New Zealand native Karaka tree.
