Mala beads or Meditation beads, are traditional, stringed tools used to count mantras, breaths, or prayers during meditation, generally consisting of 108 beads, a larger "guru" bead, and a tassel. Originating from Hinduism and Buddhism, they serve as a physical anchor for mindfulness, aiding concentration and helping to set intentions. Traditionally, malas have 108 beads, a number sacred in many traditions representing, among other things, the 108 afflictions of the mind. A larger 109th bead where the counting begins and ends, often representing a teacher or the connection between student and teacher. Attached to the guru bead is a tassel, it represents connection to spirit or consciousness and acts as a finishing point for the mala.

Malas are sacred tools, so wear them with respect and intention rather than purely as a fashion accessory.

While commonly worn around the neck, you can also wrap them around your wrist, though this can place strain on the cord.

In some traditions, practitioners prefer to keep their mala private (wrapped on the wrist) rather than wearing it openly, particularly during strict spiritual practices.

Ultimately, wearing mala beads is a personal practice, and you can wear them however you feel most comfortable and grounded.

Green Jade Symbolizes growth, abundance, and emotional balance. Resonates with the heart chakra for healing and unconditional love.

Yellow Jade is associated with the solar plexus chakra, representing joy, personal power, and mental clarity.

Kawakawa- is the most common variety of Pounamu. It comes in many shades - from strong, rich green to dark green - and often has small dark flecks, which add to its character. Named after the leaf of the Kawakawa. It is the main type used for jewellery purposes.
