Moko Pounamu Kuru Raukaraka Greenstone - Hine
This Kuru (Drop) is carved from Raukaraka pounamu, showing a striking blend of warm honey-gold and russet tones fading into soft sage and pale green toward the base, giving the stone a natural, landscape-like gradient of colour. The form is a simple tapered drop, left free of carving so the natural beauty and colour variation of the stone remains the focus. A single drilled hole sits at the top, threaded with a black cord and finished with a neat woven knot. The surface is polished to a smooth, glassy lustre, allowing the warm and cool tones within the stone to shift and glow as the piece catches the light.
Kuru- Drop pendants are regarded as touch stones for meditation and representing a connection to the whenua (the land) Aotearoa (New Zealand). The Kuru design is a simple slender length of pounamu worn to encourage knowledge, confidence and independence.
Raukaraka- Genuine West Coast Greenstone from the Taramakau River Area. This is the term used by the Māori of the Cook Strait region of the Kawakawa variety that is streaked with a shade of olive green and has yellow and orange hues that blend into the greens. This stone shares its name with the New Zealand native Karaka tree.
