This is a gorgeous hand-carved Kahotea Pounamu Kumete (Bowl). This stunning mid-size bowl features beautiful light green clouds swirling among rich dark green hues. Its variegated patterns create a mesmerizing effect, owning a Kumete is not just about possessing a beautiful object—it's about honouring tradition and connecting with the stories of generations past making it a precious family taonga.

Kumete or bowls were used for storing and serving food. They came in an assortment of sizes, depths and shapes, and were used in formal settings to impress high-standing manuhiri (visitors). Many Kumete acquired personal names and were passed from one generation to another.

Kahotea – Pounamu from the Greenstone, West Coast area. A type streaked or flecked with white. The name Kahotea derives from Kaho, meaning light coloured tea (white or clear).
