This strikingly designed Kuru pendant is carved from beautifully mild and clear Inanga Pounamu, featuring a skillfully worked Double Pikorua set within the form. The upper face of the pendant retains an area of unfinished, rough stone, creating a bold contrast between natural texture and refined carving. The soft, pale tones of the Inanga give the piece a calm, luminous quality, while the internal twisting design adds depth and meaning. A unique and expressive pendant with real presence.
Kuru/Drop - Drop pendants are regarded as touch stones for meditation and representing a connection to the whenua (the land) Aotearoa (New Zealand). The Kuru design is a simple slender length of pounamu worn to encourage knowledge, confidence and independence.
Inanga
– This pounamu takes its name from a freshwater fish native to New Zealand. It is pale and often transparent, like the young of the Inanga fish. It is pearly white to grey green in colour, and ranges from translucent to quite opaque. It can change colour over time, developing a light olive tint as it ages and oxidises - Highly prized by the Māori and the desired material for making Mere and Patu.
