Moko Pounamu Kouma (Breastplate) NZ Genuine Kawakawa Greenstone - Mihiwaka
A gorgeous Kouma (Breastplate) handcrafted from a beautiful piece of Kawakawa Pounamu, this was a small pebble found by the carver on a walk up the Arahura river. The wavy colour through the stone is gorgeous.
Kouma/Breastplate - signifies strength and protection in battle. Today they still hold this symbolism but more as a representative scale.
Kawakawa- is the most common variety of Pounamu. it comes in many shades - from strong, rich green to dark green - and often has small dark flecks, which add to its character. Named after the leaf of the Kawakawa. It is the main type used in gem purposes.
