This contemporary breastplate pendant is carved from genuine Hapopo Pounamu sourced from the West Coast of New Zealand. The stone features rich green tones with distinctive natural mottling, creating a unique pattern across the smooth curved surface. Designed with a simple, balanced form, the breastplate style sits beautifully when worn and highlights the natural beauty of the pounamu. Suspended on an adjustable cord, this piece blends modern design with the timeless strength and character of New Zealand greenstone.

Kouma - Breastplate- sits close to the heart, symbolising protection, inner strength, and resilience. Traditionally, it represents the sternum or breastbone, a core structure of the body that provides support and endurance. This taonga serves as a reminder of the wearer’s strength—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Wearing a Kouma connects a person to their ancestors, carrying forward their mana and wisdom. It is a symbol of courage and the ability to face life’s challenges with determination. The coolness of the stone against the skin reinforces a deep connection to Papatūānuku, grounding the wearer in their journey.

Hapopo- Genuine West Coast Greenstone. It's colour ranges from medium green to a dark forest green with a unique mottled texture. The name originating from Kā Umu o Hapopo (Big Bay) which is in Poutini ki te toka (South Westland).
