Moko Pounamu Koru NZ Genuine Kawakawa Greenstone - Paparoa

This contemporary koru pendant is carved from Kawakawa pounamu, showing a beautiful gradient from deep forest green at the top through to a lighter, brighter apple-green toward the tip, giving the piece a striking sense of depth and movement. The form is a bold, elongated koru, with one side drawn out into a long, sweeping point and the other curling back into a tight inner spiral, creating an open, dynamic silhouette that captures the koru's symbolism of new life and growth. A single drilled hole sits at the top, threaded with a black cord and finished with a simple woven knot. The stone is polished to a smooth lustre, allowing the natural colour shift within the Kahurangi to glow beautifully as the piece catches the light.

Koru- The Maori word for bright or loop. It refers to the shoots of the silver fern. The circular movement to the inner core refers to "going back to the beginnings". The unfurling frond itself is symbolic for new life, new beginnings, hope, personal growth, purity nurturing, a new phase in life, the spirit of rejuvenation and peace.

Kawakawa- is the most common variety of Pounamu. It comes in many shades - from strong, rich green to dark green - and often has small dark flecks, which add to its character. Named after the leaf of the Kawakawa. It is the main type used for jewellery purposes.
