Moko Pounamu Hei Tiki NZ Genuine Kahurangi Flower Greenstone - Arohirohi
A timeless symbol of ancestry, wisdom, and protection, this handcrafted Kahurangi Flower Pounamu Tiki is a taonga that carries deep cultural significance. Carefully carved from premium Kahurangi Pounamu, the stone displays rich emerald-green hues with natural clouding and exceptional depth, making each piece completely unique.
The striking Pāua shell eyes bring the Tiki to life, shimmering with iridescent colours that symbolise awareness, intuition, and spiritual insight. Traditionally, the Hei Tiki is regarded as one of the most treasured forms of pounamu, representing the connection between generations and honouring those who came before us.
Often worn as a guardian and treasured family heirloom, the Tiki is believed to offer protection, strength, wisdom, and good fortune to its wearer. It serves as a reminder of whakapapa (genealogy), identity, and the enduring bond between past, present, and future.
Expertly hand-polished to reveal the natural beauty of the stone, this pendant is suspended on an adjustable braided cord, making it suitable for everyday wear or as a meaningful gift to mark life's special milestones.
Hei Tiki- The exact meaning behind the stylized design is deeply rooted in traditional Māori pakiwaitara (stories) and has been interpreted in a few different ways. In Māori legend, Tiki was the first mortal man created by Tāne (the god of the forest), making the carving a symbol of humankind's origins and lineage.Another widely held belief is that the figure represents Hine-te-iwaiwa, the moon goddess and patroness of fertility and childbirth. Because of its shape, many also interpret the design as a stylization of the human embryo. The distinct carved head tilted to the side is believed to symbolize a newborn child or spiritual wisdom. Additionally, the figures frequently display a blend of both male (Tāne) and female (Wāhine) features, representing the balance of life's energies.
Kahurangi- Genuine West Coast Greenstone from the Marsden, West Coast area. Kahurangi is the rarest variety of pounamu. It is highly translucent and often comes in vivid shades of green. Small, feather-like markings in the stone can give a cloud effect – although to be classed as Kahurangi, this effect must not reduce the stone’s clarity. The word Kahurangi also indicates nobility and refers to precious jewels and held in high esteem by Māori.
Putiputi (Flower) Jade - is New Zealand’s most prized Greenstone, with pale green or ochre clouds of colour. This distinctive patterning and colouring come from the outside rim or 'rind' of the greenstone boulders or stones where the surface has oxidised.
