Moko Pounamu Hei Matau (Hook) NZ Genuine Kawakawa Greenstone - Kuku
A gorgeous Hei Matau handcrafted from a wonderful piece of Kawakawa Pounamu. The caramel cord gives a stunning contrast to the deep green hues of this fabulous stone.
Hei Matau (Fishhook)- Originally Māori have been fishermen. Their main food source was the sea, so a fishhook of high quality was a very valuable item to own. The hook became a symbol of prosperity, abundance, good health, power, authority and respect for the sea and its life in it. They also provide good luck and safety while travelling across water.
Kawakawa- is the most common variety of Pounamu. It comes in many shades - from strong, rich green to dark green - and often has small dark flecks, which add to its character. Named after the leaf of the Kawakawa. It is the main type used for gem purposes.
