Moko Pounamu Double Pikorua (Twist) Genuine NZ Inanga Greenstone & Sterling Silver - Mangakahia
A beautiful Double Pikorua carved from Inanga Pounamu with a Sterling Silver bale - a really beautiful example of this special Greenstone with the milder hue it is known for, and a lighter stone toward the edge of the piece - a wonderful taonga.
Pikorua- Double and triple Twists, resembles two intertwined pikopiko ferns. representing the paths of life and love or friendship and eternity. Double twists refer to the bond between peoples or culture rather than individuals - traditionally given as an offering of friendship between two different tribes.
Inanga – This pounamu takes its name from a freshwater fish native to New Zealand. It is pale and often transparent, like the young of the Inanga fish. It is pearly white to grey green in colour, and ranges from translucent to quite opaque. It can change colour over time, developing a light olive tint as it ages and oxidises - Highly prized by the Māori and the desired material for making Mere and Patu.
