Moko Pounamu Double Pikorua NZ Genuine Totoweka Greenstone - Rewi
A beautifully carved Totoweka Triple Twist made from light green Inanga pounamu. The stone displays soft translucent tones with delicate natural speckling that gives the surface depth and character. The flowing triple twist design represents the coming together of three paths or connections, symbolising enduring relationships, friendship and the strength of bonds that continue through time. The smooth polish highlights the natural beauty of the stone, creating an elegant and meaningful taonga that carries both grace and symbolism.
Pikorua - Double and triple Twists, resembles two intertwined pikopiko ferns. representing the paths of life and love or friendship and eternity. Double twists refer to the bond between peoples or culture rather than individuals - traditionally given as an offering of friendship between two different tribes.
Totoweka- This stone is usually like the mid green Kawakawa variety but differs in that the spotting or streaks are red like blood. It is rare to find Totoweka in the Westland jade fields, but when a piece is discovered, it is highly cherished and sometimes becomes the show piece of the fossicker’s collection. Large deposits of Totoweka occur in the South Westland area. The name comes from toto (blood), weka (Native bush hen) or weka blood. The red iron oxide inclusions were likened to the colour of blood of the Weka.
