Moko Pounamu Heru NZ Genuine Kawakawa Greenstone - Tangonge
This beautiful Heru has been carved from Kawakawa Pounamu, displaying wonderful patterning and distinctive rich green tones. A stylish and functional piece, perfect for securing a bun or top knot.
Heru- used by Maori to fasten long hair into a top knot. These also identified the rank of the wearer and were usually carved from a single piece of whale bone or wood and on occasion decorated with paua shell.
Kawakawa- is the most common variety of Pounamu. It comes in many shades - from strong, rich green to dark green - and often has small dark flecks, which add to its character. Named after the leaf of the Kawakawa. It is the main type used for jewellery purposes.
