A work of amazing creativity and skill, this Hei Matau (Hook) Pendant has been exquisitely carved from Kawakawa Pounamu by artist Kerry Thompson. The rich, velvety green stone flows gracefully from the top of the piece to the curve and point of the hook, captivating the eye at every turn. Finished with a matching Pounamu toggle, this pendant is a poetic expression in New Zealand jade, shaped by the rivers and shores of Aotearoa. A stunning addition to any collection.

Hei Matau/Fishhook - Originally Māori were fishermen. Their main food source was the sea, so a fishhook of high quality was an unbelievably valuable item to own. The hook became a symbol of prosperity, abundance, good health, power, authority and respect for the sea and its life in it. They also provide good luck and safety while traveling across water.

Kawakawa- is the most common variety of Pounamu. it comes in many shades - from strong, rich green to dark green - and often has small dark flecks, which add to its character. Named after the leaf of the Kawakawa. It is the main type used in gem purposes.
