Strength. Courage. Prestige.

For generations, the Hei Toki (adze blade) has been one of the most revered pounamu shapes, carried by leaders, protectors, and those who shape the world around them.

Now, for a limited time, we are offering 25% off every Hei Toki pendant on our website in our flash sale.

Whether you are gifting a taonga to a graduate, a new parent, a team member stepping into leadership, or simply honouring your own journey, there has never been a better moment to wear or share this powerful symbol.

The Meaning Behind the Hei Toki

The Toki (adze) was an essential tool in traditional Māori society – used for carving waka, shaping whare, and clearing land. To wear a Hei Toki is to carry the mana of the creator, the builder, and the provider.

It represents:

  • Strength and determination – the ability to face challenges head‑on
  • Leadership and responsibility – guiding others with integrity
  • Skill and craftsmanship – honouring the work of one’s hands

Worn close to the chest, the Hei Toki grounds the wearer, reminding them of their own inner power and the legacy they are building.

For businesses across Aotearoa, sourcing gifts that are meaningful to the recipient and genuinely memorable can be difficult. Pounamu, with its cultural significance to Aotearoa and natural beauty, is a taonga that makes a perfect gift.
By Louise Wedlake May 3, 2026
According to tradition, pounamu was born from Papatūānuku. Her tears of sorrow and joy flowed into the rivers of Te Waipounamu (the South Island) after her separation from Ranginui (the Sky Father). These tears crystalised into pounamu, imbuing the stone with her mauri (life force) and mana (spiritual power).
