An impressive Wahaika handcrafted from a stunning piece of Inanga Pounamu by an incredible master carver. A wonderful sculpture with strong mana and one to treasure for generations to come. This epic piece will come with a handmade to mesure Rimu display stand.

Wahaika- (roughly translated "the mouth of the fish") The carved figure on the edge represented a sacred ancestor or the god of war. The Wahaika was held so that the figure faced the warrior and looked over his shoulder to protect his back. The Maori people being fierce warriors used a wide range of hand weapons. The Wahaika is one of the many forms of fighting club used by Maori warriors and was reserved for only the highest ranking and most respected fighters. It is often given as a ceremonial piece on special occasions.

Sculpture - Inanga- Pounamu takes its name from a freshwater fish native to New Zealand. It is pale and often transparent, like the young of the Inanga fish. It is pearly white to grey green in colour, and ranges from translucent to quite opaque. It can change colour over time, developing a light olive tint as it ages and oxidises - Highly prized by the Māori and the desired material for making Mere and Patu.
