Moko Pounamu Roimata (Teardrop) NZ Genuine Kahotea Flower Greenstone - Opapa
This Roimata pendant is hand carved from Kahotea Flower Pounamu, showing mild layered tones which move through the stone with features of Putiputi (Flower.) The teardrop form is clean and well shaped, with a traditional cord binding at the top that adds strength and detail to the design. Finished to a smooth polish, it carries a calm presence with refined, natural character.
Roimata/Teardrop - Named for their teardrop shape, meaning tears of sadness or grief, and are widely regarded as touchstones in healing and meditation. It is often called the comfort stone and given to show sympathy, shared emotion and that they, the receiver, is not alone in their grief. The drop pendants are also believed to represent a connection to the whenua (the land) Aotearoa (New Zealand).
Kahotea – Pounamu from the Greenstone, West Coast area. A type streaked or flecked with white. The name Kahotea derives from Kaho, meaning light coloured tea (white or clear.)
Putiputi (Flower) Jade- is New Zealand’s most prized Greenstone, with pale green or ochre clouds of colour. This distinctive patterning and colouring come from the outside rim or 'rind' of the greenstone boulders or stones where the surface has oxidised.
