This magnificent Tā Moko Handcrafted from a fabulous piece of Kahurangi Pounamu with a stunning band of Kahotea through the middle, showing the incredible rich green and enhancing the fantastic natural markings, showcased on a hand forged iron stand. This is a unique and rare carving, showcasing the amazing skill of a talented carver.
Each moko contains ancestral tribal messages specific to the wearer. These messages tell the story of the wearer's family and tribal affiliations, and their place in these social structures. In earlier times, it was an important signifier of social rank, knowledge, skill.

Sculptural Head - Genuine West Coast Kahurangi Greenstone from the Marsden, West Coast area . Kahurangi is the rarest variety of pounamu. It is highly translucent and often comes in vivid shades of green. Small, feather-like markings in the stone can give a cloud effect – although in order to be classed as Kahurangi, this effect must not reduce the stone’s clarity. The word Kahurangi also indicates nobility and refers to precious jewels and held in high esteem by Māori .
This a Genuine West Coast Kahotea Greenstone from the Greenstone, West Coast area. A type streaked or flecked with white. The name Kahotea derives from Kaho, meaning light coloured tea (white or clear).
