A wonderful Mere handcrafted from a beautiful rich dark piece of Kawakawa Pounamu. This exceptional Mere is displayed on a bronze painted Forged Steel Stand, creating an incredible show piece. This Mere is a fantastic Taonga, one to keep and pass down through the generations.

The mere is a type of short, broad-bladed weapon in the shape of an enlarged tear drop. It was used to strike/jab an opponent in the body or the head, usually made from greenstone. The Mere signifies high status and gives the owner courage and strength.

Genuine West Coast Greenstone – Kawakawa is the most common variety of Pounamu. it comes in many shades - from strong, rich green to dark green - and often has small dark flecks, which add to its character. Named after the leaf of the Kawakawa. It is the main type used in gem purposes.
