Kawakawa is the most common variety of Pounamu. It comes in many shades - from strong, rich green to dark green - and often has small dark flecks, which add to its character. Named after the leaf of the Kawakawa, it is the main type of pounamu used for gem purposes.

New Zealand Greenstone is best described as being one thousand and one different colours and shades. No two items made from New Zealand Greenstone are exactly alike. The range of colours that are unique to New Zealand Greenstone set it apart from the rest of the world!
