Product Details

A stunning Dolphin caught in the act of leaping out of the water, handcrafted from a wonderful piece of Kahurangi stone. This is a stunning carving of the most beloved sea animal in the world, a sweet, gentle creature.

The Dolphin represents a free spirit and symbolizes playfulness, harmony, and friendship. Closeness to nature, especially the ocean. Māori revered dolphins, as they did whales – believing them to be water spirits. There are legendary tales telling of gods, who had taken the form of dolphins, guiding sailors through treacherous waterways to keep them safe.

Genuine West Coast Kahurangi Greenstone from the Marsden, West Coast area. Kahurangi is the rarest variety of pounamu. It is highly translucent and often comes in vivid shades of green. Small markings can sometimes be seen in the stone – although in order to be classed as Kahurangi, this effect must not reduce the stone’s clarity. The word Kahurangi also indicates nobility and refers to precious jewels and held in high esteem by Māori .
